Super Engineering Plastics
Classification
- Plastic
Features
Engineering Plastics mainly include five kinds of Engineering Plastics
(polyoxymethylene : POM, polyethylene terephthalate : PET, polycarbonate
: PC, polyamide : PA, and modified-Polyphenyleneether : m-PPE) . Engineering
Plastics generally have heat resistance values of not less than 100 ℃,
tensile strength of not less than 49 MPa and flexural modulus of not less
than 2.4 GPa. Engineering Plastics having over 150 ℃ of heat resistance
values are called Super Engineering Plastics. Super Engineering Plastic
has excellent heat resistance because it has benzene linkages with pendant
groups in polymer chains. Polyetherimide, Polyacrylate and Polysulphone are used
in medical application because of their transparency. PPS can be used as metal replacement to reduce overall cost. Polyimide
extrusions can retain their properties at high and low temperatures. Therefore,
they are used in the aerospace industry.
